Gréta Salóme & Jónsi
Gréta Salóme & Jónsi is an Icelandic duo who represented Iceland at Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan, with their entry “Never Forget”. Competing in the first semi-final, they performed 2nd and finished in 8th place to qualify for the Eurovision final. In the final, they performed 7th and finished in 20th place with 46 points.
The duo emerged as the winners of Icelandic national selection “Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins”, beating off six other participants during a two hour show at the “Harpa” music hall in Reykjavik, with "“Mundu Eftir Mér" (Remember Me). They were the favourites of both the televoting public and a professional jury. However, the odds were against them after the final English version was released.
Jónsi (Jón Jósep Snæbjörnsson, 34) has already represented Iceland in Eurovision, performing “Heaven” for the country in 2004. He ended up in 19th place with 16 points. He was also a member of the band “Í Svörtum Fötum” who gained large popularity in the country at the beginning of the new milennium, releasing four albums with eachother. Jónsi already tried to represent his country again in 2007, where he competed in the final of “Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins” with the song “Segðu mér”.
Gréta Salóme is a songwriter and Icelandic violinist, who for the first time entered songs this year for the Icelandic preselection herself. She has a Bachelors degree in Violin performance at the Icelandic Art Academy, and currently is working with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Read more on Last.fm.
